Threshing Day, Settrington, North Yorks 1905

Photographer Unknown

VP 027

This lovely image illustrates the sense of occasion which surrounded threshing day on farms throughout England until the middle of the C20th. This kind of group photograph, comprising family, farm workers and occasional labour, gives an indication of how labour intensive the harvest was, even in the early days of mechanisation.
