A superbly evocative image showing Louis Wagner refuelling his Fiat during the 1912 French Grand Prix. The race was run over 20 laps of a 47-mile circuit on public roads, the winning cars achieving an average speed of around 70 mph. Wagner went on to finish second in the race behind the Peugeot of Georges Biollot.
