Barnard Castle, Blagraves House, circa 1890

Elijah Yeoman

YB 007

Blagraves is the oldest surviving building in Barnard Castle and was once the property of Richard III. Even in Victorian times it was regarded as something of a curiosity and appears repeatedly in illustrations, paintings and photographs. Here a tiny Victorian lady in black poses on the steps. The sign to her right is advertising the forthcoming harvest festival in the parish church.
