Eric Lemming (1880- 1930) – Sweden – javelin. In 1908 Stockholm policeman Lemming was the world champion javelin thrower. The javelin was a recently revived sport, first introduced into the Olympic programme at Athens in 1906. Lemming won gold there and again at London in 1908. 6 foot 3” tall, he was much admired for his physique which was judged similar to an ancient Greek statue in its beauty and proportion.
